THE COLLECTIVE IMPACT FRAMEWORK
Too many organizations are working in isolation from one another
.Collective Impact is a framework to tackle deeply entrenched and complex social problems. It is an innovative and structured approach to making collaboration work across government, business, philanthropy, non-profit organisations and citizens to achieve significant and lasting social change.
The Collective Impact approach is premised on the belief that no single policy, government department, organization or program can tackle or solve the increasingly complex social problems we face as a society.
SO WHERE DO WE START?
It starts with a common agenda. It means coming together to collectively define the problem and create a shared vision to solve it.
It establishes shared measurements, which means agreeing to track progress in the same way, which allows for continuous improvement towards our long term goals.
It promotes mutually reinforcing activities. That means coordinating collective efforts through collaboration to maximize the end result.
It encourages continuous communication. That means building trust and relationships among all participants.
It has a strong backbone. That means having a team dedicated to orchestrating the work of the group. (Collective Impact Forum, 2017)
Collective Impact initiatives have a centralized infrastructure – known as a backbone organization – with dedicated volunteers and/or staff whose role is to help participating organizations shift from acting alone to acting in concert. The Mt Washington Valley Regional Collaborative exists in order to improve communication and collaboration among the residents, employers, and other parties interested in the health and vigor of Mt Washington Valley. We do this through contact with public and private agencies in the region, holding forums for discussion of topics of interest, working towards a shared strategic plan, and working with appropriate local partners on the most important goals identified by participants in the planning process
